If the front end of your NA feels a bit “lazy” or vague when you turn into a corner, you’re likely dealing with the combined effects of 30-year-old rubber and tired hardware. Over time, factory bushings soften and alignment bolts seize, meaning your carefully chosen alignment settings actually change while you’re mid-corner under load.
We designed the Front End Precision Kit to restore that legendary MX-5 point-and-shoot steering. This kit focuses on “locking down” the front-end geometry. By replacing the compliant factory rubber with polyurethane and reinforcing the thin factory mounting points, we’re removing the “flex” that causes the car to feel nervous at the limit.
SkidNation MX-5 NA Front End Precision Kit
What’s inside the kit:
- Front Axle Polyurethane Bush Kit – These replace the soft original rubber in your control arms, ensuring your suspension geometry stays exactly where it should be during hard cornering.
- Two stiffness options: Choose 80 ShA for a street-focused car that still needs to absorb some road noise, or 90 ShA for track builds where maximum precision is the goal.
- ARB Compatibility: We provide the correct bush size for your specific Anti-Roll Bar (available in 15 mm, 19 mm, 20 mm, 22 mm, 24 mm, or 27 mm).
- Durability: Unlike rubber, these won’t perish or “bind” over time, providing a consistent feel for years.
- Sway Bar Brace Kit – The factory sway bar mounts are made of relatively thin sheet metal that is known to bend under heavy load – especially once you install stiffer bushings or a thicker bar.
- Reinforces the mounts: Uses a strong powder-coated steel cross-brace paired with CNC-machined aluminum blocks to bridge the gap between the mounts.
- Eliminates unwanted flex: By “boxing in” the mounts, the energy is directed into the sway bar itself rather than twisting the chassis tabs.
- Protects the chassis: Prevents the common issue of factory mounts snapping or deforming during track use or spirited driving.
- High-Strength Alignment Bolts – If you’ve ever tried to align an NA, you know the factory eccentric bolts are almost always seized, rusted, or rounded off.
- Essential for setup: You can’t have a “Precision Kit” if your mechanic can’t actually adjust the camber or caster.
- Reliable clamping: These bolts are designed to hold your settings even under the high vibrations of a track environment.
- Corrosion resistant: Designed to survive the elements much better than the 30-year-old hardware they replace.
Key benefits
- Sharper turn-in response as the control arms and sway bar mounts no longer shift under initial load.
- Consistent alignment settings mid-corner, leading to more predictable grip and increased driver confidence.
- Improved front-end stability, specifically during quick transitions (like S-curves or chicanes).
- Prevention of mount failure: Bulletproofs a known weak point before it becomes a costly repair.
- Maintenance-friendly hardware: Fresh bolts make future alignment checks a quick and easy job.
This kit is for you if:
- Your NA feels “nervous” or vague during turn-in and you want to restore its directness.
- You are planning to run (or already run) a stiffer aftermarket front sway bar.
- You are doing a full suspension refresh and want to address all front-end “weak links” at once.
- You use your car for track days or spirited B-road driving where precision matters most.
This kit is NOT for you if:
- You want a “silent” luxury ride: While 80 ShA is street-friendly, polyurethane is firmer than rubber and may transmit a bit more road texture.
Fits all 1989-1997 models – NA (Mk1).
