Quickly shifting gears on your NA or NB MX-5 Miata while driving fast can be a challenge. To miss the right gear in the middle of a slalom course is a bugger, or in the worst case of a “money shift”, a possible engine damage. Problem lies in the soft stock engine mounts that allow the engine block to tilt back and forth, resulting in the gear lever moving around. Fortunately, we have a solution that comes with other benefits as well!
These lightweight, yet durable performance engine mounts keep the stock engine height while using our own bespoke design compared to stock. With custom 70A stiffness 50 mm polyurethane bushings they are more suited for performance street driving, track-days and racing applications. They offer vastly improved shifting experience, better mass control of the engine and more immediate throttle response without the drawbacks of solid mounts.
With over 30% weight saving over stock, these are a great choice for all driving enthusiasts. They will also last for the lifetime of the car, as compared to rubber bushing the polyurethane inserts will not harden and break over time. Proudly manufactured by us, including the polyurethane inserts. Surface is powder coated for durability.
Somewhat increased NVH (Noise, Vibration, Harshness) is to be expected, possibly causing interior trim rattle below 2000 rpm or at idle. This is probably not a concern for performance-oriented drivers, but might be a bit too much for some daily drivers, so we recommend this setup primarily for dedicated performance cars. For daily drivers you should consider a hybrid setup which retains stock bushing on exhaust side and our race mount on the intake side.
At the moment we offer two sets of engine mounts depending on engine mounting hole patterns (please check your engine prior to ordering).
– 1.8 engines without VVT (BP and some BP4W) using 3 mounting bolts on each side of the block
(usually found in NA and early NB; you can use 3 bolt mount on a 4 bolt block but not vice versa)
– 1.8 engines with VVT (BP ZE) using 4 mounting bolts on each side of the block
(usually found in NB and NBFL)
Version for the 1.6 liter engines (3 bolts) is in the works, stay tuned!
– Full kit with both mounts (performance builds or if you don’t mind increased vibrations in the cabin)
– Hybrid with only intake side mount (keeping your exhaust side OEM mount to reduce harshness and vibrations)
